UUASC

Program, August 1999

Running on Open Source Software

Monday, August 9, 7-9 pm

The City of Garden Grove has been a pioneer with its use of "free" software. At the UUASC August meeting, Robert Shingledecker, IS Manager for the City of Garden Grove, will update the group on this unique environment. Robert previously told us about the Garden Grove environment back in October 1997. The City of Garden Grove currently uses Linux, Samba, Apache, and Java over a campus environment to connect with their legacy Pick-based database. Their system has been the subject of an article in Linux Journal.

Robert will also be attending Linux Expo and will tell us about his experiences there. Other members who attend are invited to contribute to the discussion.
