For our July meeting, a group of UUASC members are going underground -- in particular, to DEF CON V, the "undergound" computing and technology conference in Las Vegas on July 11 - 13. The UUASC July meeting will begin with a report of the conference by attendees, followed by a roundtable discussion of any underground computing topics of interest.
DEF CON claims to cater to "Hackers, Phreaks, Hammies, Virii Coders, Programmers, Crackers, Cyberpunk Wannabees, Civil Liberties Groups, CypherPunks, Futurists, Artists, and Criminally Insane" of the world, so there should be something of interest for everyone! Members not able to attend who nonetheless have interest in a particular topic are encouraged to post (before the convention) a request to our mailing list so that members of the attending group can investigate.
The UUASC has received several evaluation copies of Caldera OpenLinux Lite and S.u.S.E. Linux. What to do with these gifts will be another topic of discussion on July 14.
