*** DO NOT GO TO THE ORACLE BUILDING ***

Thanks once again to Jonathan Broome for providing a temporary home for UUASC in Orange County. We will return to the Oracle offices for the October meeting.

This month in Orange County UUASC member Alan Bryan will present on his experience building and growing a (mostly) FreeBSD platform for serving the Central Desktop collaboration solution.

This talk will cover some of the specific benefits and challenges that FreeBSD has provided relative to other OS choices. He will also cover other pieces of the Central Desktop stack that have been added to allow for scale of the stack from a single machine 6 years ago to roughly 80+ machines today and the plans to take Central Desktop to the next level.

Technologies in use at Central Desktop that will be discussed include FreeBSD, PostgreSQL, ActiveMQ, PHP, Memcache, ZFS. Alan is Director of IT at Central Desktop and has grown this stack from inception to support a business with half a million users, over 60 employees and rapidly growing.
