Oracle, Storage, and Pizza

Monday, November 13, 7-9 pm

Curtis has made his slides available. We also have a video of the presentation.

Applied Computer Solutions, the good folks that catered the March meeting with pizza are coming back for an encore, this time with an Oracle/storage guy speaking and offering us even more food and drinks to boot. And, as an added bonus (at no extra charge), ACS will bring dessert too!!

At the November meeting of UUASC-OC, senior database consultant Curtis Diblin of ACS will present a program on installing Oracle 10gR2 RAC for Solaris on both SPARC and X86-64 architectures, while using both third party clusterware and clustered file systems.

Curtis will begin by familiarizing us with problems encountered when installing Oracle on Solaris. Then, while everyone in the audience is busy munching on pizza and sodas, he will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using Sun Cluster or Veritas SFRAC, and advise us as to when those products should best be employed and what benefits they offer as compared to vanilla Oracle RAC. The topic is relevant, because unlike many other operating systems, Solaris offers a multitude of different third party clusterware and clustered filesystem support.

Curtis has installed and administered dozens of Oracle clusters and has an extensive background working with large databases. He has certifications from Veritas, Oracle, and Sun, and has worked for both of the latter two companies.
