John has provided these links to his presentation. The screencast. The presentation.
We begin a series of presentations to be given by the good folks at Sun.
At the August meeting of UUASC-OC, top-notch Sun engineer and UUASC member John Clingan, who spoke to us about Solaris Zones in LA back in 2004, returns to demonstrate for us another Solaris 10 feature. This one enables filesystems the size of city blocks.
John will explain how ZFS is a new kind of filesystem that provides simple administration, data integrity, and immense scalability. It features built-in compression, fast backups and restores, pooled storage, and snapshots and clones. John has found the ability to snapshot and clone Zones exceptionally useful and a "huge time saver".
John works as a technical specialist focusing on Solaris and the Java Enterprise System for Sun Microsystems, where he has worked for more than nine years.
