Jordan has made his slides available.
For those of you with an appetite for systems management, software tools, and databases, we have got a topic for you!
At the April meeting of UUASC-OC, our own Jordan Schwartz makes his OC speaking debut. Jordan will review for us various free, open source, and proprietary tools that can be used for building and mantaining a server inventory database. He will show us how they are implemented and can be used for tracking and adminstration of UNIX systems.
Jordan will demonstrate some of the tools. Particular topics will be "rolling your own" with *AMP (Apache, MySQL, Perl/PHP/Python) and the role of Data Center Markup Language (DCML) in the data collection process. He might even throw in some Java/JDBC as well. Jordan plans to have interaction with the audience, with his plan being to survey the UUASC general email list in advance to determine which tools would best be discussed during his talk.
Jordan has 15 years of experience administering UNIX systems in the financial, aerospace, and public policy research industries.
