Syslog-NG

Monday, March 14, 7-9 pm

Ryan has made available a copy of his slides. (You may also reference them directly on his site.)

We all know UUASC is the user group America trusts for fair and balanced UNIX. After we hosted programs in 2003 and 2004 on parsing logs and featured SEC, we will now demonstrate a competing system logger.

At the March meeting of UUASC-OC, UUASC's own Ryan Liebenberg will introduce us to a next generation syslog product called Syslog-NG that has received much attention in trade journals and publications.

Ryan will show how to configure syslog-ng.conf and discuss features such as logging to a database back end, using a variety of log sources and secure tunneling of log traffic.

Ryan is a systems administrator with six years of experience. He also worked for five years making coffee at Starbucks, and he has used those talents at past UUASC meetings to prepare fine brew for us. This will be Ryan's first speaking engagement since recently recovering from being run over by an SUV while crossing a street.
